Why I’m Running for Mayor

I’ve lived through enough hard moments to know that leadership is not about having the loudest voice in the room. It’s about staying calm, listening carefully, earning trust, and helping people move together through difficult problems, and that is the experience I would bring to City Hall.

I’ve served in the military, fought wildland fires, taught students how to think critically, helped veterans rebuild community, worked on disaster recovery, and advocated for the places I love, and all of that has taught me how to stay calm, listen first, bring people together, and keep working until the mission is done.

For most of my adult life, I have helped communities through difficult times. I served during the Iraq War where I helped rebuild and stabilize communities until an ambush critically injured me and sent me home with a Purple Heart. I served as an acting platoon leader after Hurricane Katrina in New Orleans, where I saw how deeply people depend on steady leadership in moments of crisis. Once, during a harsh winter, as commander of our American Legion in NE Portland, I turned our post into a homeless shelter to save lives and prevent people from freezing on the street. In 2020, after the Holiday Farm Fire devastated Blue River and the McKenzie River communities, I worked with governmental agencies and faith-based communities as a community organizer to help people recover and rebuild. Those experiences taught me that when people come together with purpose and determination, communities can endure hardship and emerge stronger.

That is what I believe about Astoria.

Astoria is a town with grit, history, and heart. It was built by hardworking people who believed in making something lasting. I believe its best days are still ahead. I want to help Astoria live up to its full potential by supporting local businesses, honoring our heritage, strengthening community, and building a future that creates opportunity while preserving the character of the town we love.

I want to run for Mayor because I believe my lived experience has prepared me for this moment. I love Astoria. I believe in its people. And I am ready to serve.
